🧶Patterns for Adults & Little Ones

Mama & Me crochet patterns, I just love them! Be Mama & Me crochet patterns, I just love them!

Being able to match with your little one is such a lovely experience. My boys are a little less keen now as they get older (if it’s not Minecraft, Sonic or Pokémon they’re not interested 😅) and I miss it so much.

When I used to sell finished pieces I would often get asked if I could make adult versions of the children’s garments so that Mama could match them with her little one. I knew that when I started designing my own crochet patterns that I wanted to offer my designs in both adult and child sizes.

Are all of my patterns available in both adult and child sizes? No…not yet…but I’m working on it! 😘

Do you like to match with your little one?

A good mix of crochet, reading and being outdoors. A good mix of crochet, reading and being outdoors. All my favourite things 🥰

It’s been a busy time over the last few weeks with a real mix in weather. I enjoyed squeezing in some outdoor crochet time when I could and have started so many new WIPs.

Seriously, I must have about 6 projects on the go at the moment 🫣. How many do you have currently?

Things were really slow with my reading for a while but recently I’ve read some really good books and added more books pennies to my book tin 🙌🏻

Free Pattern Friday - save for later! 💗 Protect y Free Pattern Friday - save for later! 💗

Protect your precious books from being bashed about! 📚

This is such a quick and easy project perfect for making over the weekend when you’re relaxing watching TV.

They’re so quick in fact that I made two in one afternoon and that included filming this reel 🙌🏻 😅
•••

For the sake of this reel I am assuming you know how to make a granny square but fear not! If you want to learn or need a refresher it’s all in the written pattern wishing can be found on my blog.

There are also tips for adjusting sizing to fit whichever book or device you would like it to accommodate and using different hook/yarn combos!

I used @yarnsmiths Bizarre DK with a 4mm hook (4.5mm in the video but the 4 works better!) and found a total of 16 rounds fit a standard UK paperback nicely.

If you prefer to read hardbacks or have chunky paperbacks then simply add more rounds!

As I used a variegated yarn I didn’t change colour but you absolutely could to make one to suit you 🥰

I think these would be great for gifts or even for markets and craft fairs!

Happy crocheting lovelies 💗

This year has been the worst 🙃 In terms of patter This year has been the worst 🙃

In terms of pattern sales and social media growth it’s been awful.

A lot of changes to how Instagram shows posts etc definitely isn’t helping. Then my anxiety messing with my ability to design new patterns really isn’t helping 🙈

I’m hopeful that things will start to improve. That I’ll find my feet again. I really don’t want to give up but my gosh it’s hard going! 😅

I promise this will be my one and only debbie-downer post!

All the girlies gauge swatch 💗 I know that when y All the girlies gauge swatch 💗

I know that when you’re eager to start your new project the idea of making a gauge swatch first can seem really pointless and like a complete waste of time but I promise you it’s worth it!

I never used to gauge swatch. I’d assume that if I used the same weight yarn and hook as that stated in the pattern that I’d be golden. Sadly that led to many a disaster project with ill fitting garments and WIPs that were abandoned out of frustration.

Gauge swatching sets you up to have the best possible chance to create a garment that you will love and want to wear. It really doesn’t take that long so grab a coffee and take 5 mins to do your gauge swatch before you dive in head first to that new project 🥰

Next week I’ll show you exactly how to make a swatch and check your gauge and give you some useful tips for what you can do if you don’t match gauge.

If you have any gauge related questions let me know in the comments and I’ll try to answer them 🥰

Who knew crochet was so good for you! Me, I knew! Who knew crochet was so good for you!

Me, I knew! 🖐🏻 😂
It’s no secret that I’m crochet obsessed! I use crochet to help manage my anxiety and of course I’ve turned it into my business but here are 5 reasons I think you should crochet:

1. You can make beautiful things that you can use! ~ I’m talking blankets, baby bonnets, cardigans, cushions and so much more! 🥹

2. It sparks your creativity and confidence ✨

3. It’s a gentle way to support your mental health 🤍

4. It teaches patience and promotes lifelong learning (great for the little grey cells 🧠)

5. You can find community 🫶🏻

Bonus: It’s a great hobby to help cut down on screen time!

What reasons would you give someone for learning to crochet?

Yes I’m very behind on my 2026 book blanket! 🙊 Re Yes I’m very behind on my 2026 book blanket! 🙊

Read that as I’ve only made 3 squares so far and that was this weekend 🫣

There is a reason though - I think I overcomplicated my plan. I’d wanted to make two different types of square. One to show physical/kindle books and one to show audiobooks but I just wasn’t liking how it looked together. Too uneven a split.

I have now reverted back to just solid colour granny squares.
Boring? Perhaps.
Easy to stay on top of? Yes.
Pretty to look at? Absolutely!

However, further issues arose when I started the granny squares - I’m not sure I like the colour palette I’ve chosen 😅 I’m going to have to play around with it before I commit to making all of the squares.

From Jan-March I read 31 books and my top 5 of the year so far (in no particular order!) are:
Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid
The Long Game by Rachel Reid
Yours Truly by Abby Jiminez
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harpman
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell

Most surprisingly these were all physical/kindle reads and not audiobooks!

Have you read any of these? What did you think?
Drop me a suggestion to add to my ever-growing TBR in the comments 💗

Yarnsmiths Chenille DK has arrived and here are my Yarnsmiths Chenille DK has arrived and here are my honest thoughts as someone who would generally say they hate chenille yarn 😅🫣
(Please don’t come for me!)

I was lucky enough to be gifted some of this range a little bit early and have had a chance to play around with it. I was definitely apprehensive at first as my track record with chenille/blanket/plush type yarns is not great. I find them hard to crochet with, they don’t always look great, they shed and I find some to be a sensory overload.

That being said I was pleasantly surprised with the Chenille DK from Yarnsmiths 🥰

You can read the full review on my blog! ✨

If chenille yarn is one you would normally reach for then I think you will love this. I didn’t experience any shedding, the colours are great and it’s fantastic on price!

You can purchase @yarnsmiths Chenille DK exclusively from @woolwarehouse and it’s currently just £1.50 per 50g ball!

As a crochet designer, do I only crochet my own de As a crochet designer, do I only crochet my own designs?

Absolutely not!! 😅

Whilst crochet designing may be work for me crocheting in general is still something I want to enjoy as a hobby! 🧶

Following another designers pattern allows me to relax, enjoy the process and it can be an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and techniques.

My current personal WIP is the Lowrider Jumper by @iron_lamb and if you’ve ever followed one of Claudine’s patterns before you’ll know that she takes the humble granny stitch and uses them to create garments in the most incredible way. My brain could never 😅

There are so many incredible pattern designers out there that I’d be a fool not to still take the time to enjoy their patterns too!

Who are some of your favourite crochet pattern designers?
